Sometimes I'm right and I can be wrong. My own beliefs are in my song. The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then, makes no difference what group I'm in. I am everyday people! Yeah. Yeah. There is a blue one who can't accept the green one for living with a fat one trying to be a skinny one.
And different strokes for different folks. And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-bee. Oh sha sha… We got to live together! I am no better and neither are you. We are the same whatever we do. You love me you hate me you know me and then. You can't figure out the bag l'm in. I am everyday people! Yeah. Yeah. There is a long hair that doesn't like the short hair for being such a rich one that will not help the poor one. And different strokes for different folks. And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-bee. Oh sha sha. We got to live together! There is a yellow one that won't accept the black one. That won't accept the red one that won't accept the white one. And different strokes for different folks… and so on and so on.

In 1976. Our founder, Mr. Simeon Chalikias started chartering vessels on both competitive and exclusive basis. In that period, he was also securing short-term contracts for cargoes ranging between 5000-15000 metric tons of various commodities (steel, cement, grain, coal etc.) trading in the Mediterranean area (Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunis, Alger, Morocco, Italy) and Black Sea. Later securing bigger contracts for steel products from Black Sea to U.A.E. (Jebel Ali) of about 35,000 tons per shipment.
In 1976, using his personal savings, he bought his first ship at the price of US$ 220,000 namely, M/V KIMON M, a 24 – year old vessel of 5,080 dwt and after carrying out all the necessary repairs using his personal work and means, he sold it at a price of US$ 750,000 after he had operated it at a profit for a period of about 3 years. During that period Mr. Simeon Chalikias had bought, upgraded, operated and sold several vessels.
Concurrently from 1978 till 1983 Mr. Chalikias had accomplished to have an agreement in order to carry livestock from Somalia to Saudi Arabia. During that period, he had chartered at least 10 ships in order to make 1 to 6 consecutive voyages each. This agreement was stopped in 1983 due to a disease that affected the livestock, which made Saudis decide to stop the trade.
In 1983, he was involved services for carrying general cargo from the ports of Hamburg, Rotterdam, Antwerp and North Spain to Jeddah, Karachi, Bombay, Madras, Kolkata and Chittagong where ships were delivered for demolition.
During this period he was buying over aged vessels from open auctions in Portugal, Hamburg, France and Holland. Mr. Chalikias’ know-how and personal involvement managed to get class certificates for those vessels for a short time period in order to carry cargoes of Sea World Ocean Lines (owned by him). These vessels were then sent for demolition,
Furthermore he also chartered vessels, which were owned by Romanians and Cubans. He worked with Cubans for about 4 years chartering their twin-decker ships, which were loaded in the Far East with minerals and zinc. Their bulk carriers were loading tapioca from Indonesia to Rotterdam, Antwerp or Hamburg. These trips were complementing since the vessels were carrying sugar from Cuba to Far East.
Mr. Chalikias also founded “Worldwide Ocean Chartering S.A”. He is a Marine engineer, born in the village of Playa on the Greek Island Kefallinia back in 1956. At the age of 14 he started working in a ship repair workshop, while he carried on his studies in the high school by attending evening classes.
